Twisted Thinking:

Steps to Restoration

Freedom Session 7

Have you heard the terms absolute truth and relative truth? Absolute truth is unquestionable, undeniable, without compromise. Relative truth is always changing with the circumstances and has value only in relation to something else.

God is Truth. His Word is true. His Word is complete.

His Word tells us how to live and there is no neutral ground. We wither believe in the absolute truth of God or we don’t. The only measure for followers of Christ is the One we are following.

One of the devil’s strategies is to pervert or wrap the truth and get us to doubt God’s word as the truth. The way he does this is by convincing us that we should measure ourselves by the rest of the world and the culture around us and as long as we are not as bad as all that, then we are ok. This could be in our finances, our business practices, our social lives, our personal lives and our relationships.

The enemy is out to deceive and way he can and will try to pervert the things of God so that we edit the Word of God to our desires and lifestyle. Perversion comes in many different forms although we primarily identify it with sexual sin.  Sometimes we don’t even know we are perverting the truth but most of the time, when we take a good look, we realize we are.  We dress a certain way because we think it’s acceptable and we have bought into the relative truth that we need to do this or that we have the right to do this. We flirt with someone at the office and justify it because we aren’t doing anything physical; not recognizing the corruption in our minds and the corruption in our view of how to relate to others. We don’t set boundaries because we think someone will be offended. These are the tactics the enemy uses to corrupt our thinking and our behavior and to ruin us by perverting the truth, warping the truth.

The question is; are you willing to look at the truth? Are you willing to make a decision that absolute Truth is the only way to live? You may have to make some changes in your life. Are you willing to make the trade so that you can continue the journey to freedom?

Bible  Study:

The Beginning of Fear

Warp Thinking

12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.  I Cor 6:12

So even though things are permissible, they are not beneficial. Talk about other areas where this statement would apply.

What small excuse ro you make that you now recognize as sin?

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body I cor. 6:18

What does it mean that it is sin against your own body? Why does this sin affect you more than any other?

9 But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his, and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.” 2Tim 2:19

What does this mean?

Perversion is word twisting or putting s spin ion something, doctrinal error, every king of sexual perversion in including sexual abuse, sexual misuse, pornography, seduction.

Perversion is a really broad subject even though you may think it’s exclusive to sexual sin. The enemy is always looking for ways to distort tor pervert the truth of God’s Word and use ti to convince us to “edit” the scripture or its’ meaning and to justify our behavior or lifestyle or addiction. This is where word twisting and doctrinal error meet with perversion.

How are we Fooled:

What happens when we “edit” the truth?

How has the devil used this “editing” of God’s Word to deceive you?

In what areas of life are you editing the truth?

I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News 7 but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ. Gal 1:6-7

Word Twisting

Then he said, “You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord? Acts 13:10

Talk about some examples of word twisting that you have seen or that you have done yourself?

Jesus took our Guilt

            Read Hebrews 10:20 – 22; Romans 8:1-2

Think back to when you were young to a time when you had a guilty conscience.  What does this scripture way about our guilt?

Where I Need Absolute Truth

God is the only answer for restoration and healing. Otherwise, we are just managing sin.

The challenge is to identify the sin in this area of your life,  Here’s the list again

            Word Twisting

            Doctrinal error

            Every kind of sexual perversion

Sexual abuse

Sexual misuse

Same sex attraction

            Gender identification other than M&F

Let’s not forget about the guilt and shame. The enemy keeps us trapped in guilt and shame when things are secret. God offers us help and freedom when we confess our sins and repent.

Now make your list:

Ask God what lie you believe that keeps you trapped in perversion

Read: James 5:16, Hebrews 2:14-15

Do you have someone to confess to?  What are you afraid will happen when you confess these sins?

Prayer:  God. I declare that you rule over every spirit of perversion that deceives or harasses me. I confess and repent of any perversion in my life, any sin I have committed, including __________
