Vacation Bible School -- 2008

Superheros! That was the theme of the 2008 edition of Northtown’s Vacation Bible School, a fixture of the June schedule and a long-running success. Everybody, kids were reminded, can be a superhero in the service of the greatest of superheros: Jesus.

It’s a big production, and a huge amount of fun, nominally for kids age 2 through 6th grade. But in fact, teens and adults show up in large numbers to join the fun.

Photos from the 2003 VBS the 2004 VBS the 2005 VBS, the 2006 VBS, and the 2007 VBS are also online.

Kids line up by age group outside in the parking lot . . .
. . . socialize a bit with their buddies (or maybe kids they just met) . . .
. . . and then head inside for the program.
Inside, cast members schmooze a bit in the main auditorium before things get underway.
The Evangelator and Gospel Girl show Christian values, and of course there is the Professor, and his sidekick Sam, Mighty Miss Melinda, (who runs the whole show), a Bible drama, and Puppets.
Some of the kids join Sam in leading songs.
The drama features Christian kids going into the future, and finding a group of young people who badly need to know Jesus.
During the break, kids go outside, and the younger ones blow bubbles. . .
. . . while the older ones play a game where they pour water into a soda bottle, or more likely, on the kid holding the bottle on her head.
An egg toss can create some really hilarious results.
Kids try to keep a ball in the air using a multi-colored tarp. Is this Joseph’s coat recycled from an earlier VBS?
The kids learn that they can don a cape and be superheros too!
But perhaps the most fun is just “hanging” with other Christian kids.
